The Resplendent Radisson

One of the first things you'll want to find when you come to the island (no, not a bar, okay maybe) is a place to stay.

For comfort, convenience and a spectacular view of the Gulf of Mexico, I recommend the Radisson resort on Roosevelt Avenue. My traveling companion JoBeth and I
enjoyed ourselves in one of the Radisson's suites, which we found to be a comfortable and practical way to travel.

The suite came with a king size bed and an ample living room/kitchen area.
The living room consisted of a cushy pull out couch (perfect for traveling families or friends looking to cut down on expenses and bunk in together). Included in the room was a small refridgerator, electric coffee pot, table and chairs and even an iron, ironing board and hair dryer in case you left yours home. (Don't you hate when you forget your ironing board?)

But it was the view from the room that was so spectacular! Waking up in Key West and looking out onto the beautiful surrounding waters of the Gulf of Mexico was just amazing. It's uncanny how easy it is to get used to that kind of lifestyle; get up when you feel like it, look at gorgeous scenery and have your biggest daily dilemma be whether to see Hemmingway's House or go for a three-hour snorkeling trip.

After three nights at the Radisson, I was ready to move in. This six-story resort features 145 newly appointed deluxe guest rooms. And all the rooms either overlook the Gulf of Mexico or the outdoor Swimming Pool.

The Swimming Pool is surrounded by lush tropical greenery and the Pool's perimeters are accented by spurting fountains. A dip in the pool is the perfect beginning, end (or middle) to a rough day of shopping, drinking and sightseeing. Poolside, you'll find the resort's own watering hole, Splash. Here you can refresh yourself with a cool drink before once again resuming the arduous task of sunbathing or lounging.

The resort also features fax/computer hookups in the room, if you really must, and there's even a fitness room on the premises should you feel the need. Then there's the 24-hour Denny's right downstairs, so when you return home after doing the "Duval Crawl" you won't go hungry. Free Parking and 24 hour coin laundry are also offered.

The Radisson is a great place to host your next business meeting, function, or wedding reception (up to 100 people). Mona Lisa Rainer (do you just love that name) is the Marketing Director and a joy to do business with. She's ready to help you accomodate any group travel plans or special events you may want the resort to host. Her staff is friendly, helpful and really makes you feel at home. Think about coming here next time you visit the Keys. It proved to be a real positive experience for us and, never having stayed there before, a place I would surely return to. You can reach Mona Lisa Rainer at (305) 294-5511 or email her at monalisa.rainer@radisson.com.
